The effect of SSRI's on intra-cortical information pathways and inter-columnar integration
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI's) sush as Prozac are often prescribed as anti-depressants, and are sometimes used by women during pregnancy. The effects of SSRI's in human development are largely unknown. However, SSRI's are known to disturb the formation of barrels in rat primary somatosensory cortex. During my internship here I will focus on investigating intra-cortical signal propagation as well as inter-columnar integration in both Wild-type and Serotonin Transporter Knock-Out rats. |
